Overview
An event targeted at senior business leaders interested in how they might use social investment to further their corporate, social and environmental objectives.
This event is free of charge.
Why corporate social investment?
The boundaries between the worlds of business and civil society are shifting. Social entrepreneurs, charity CEOs and charitable foundations are embracing businesses thinking of creating models of delivery that tackle society’s toughest problems. Meanwhile a growing number of multinationals are discovering that business can “do good and make a profit”.
Innovative and forward-thinking businesses are increasingly seeing social investment as a tool to bridge these different worlds, connecting with purpose and furthering their corporate, social and environmental objectives. This could include creating accelerator programmes, corporate social venture funds or joint ventures with social purpose organisations.
Social investment is a new concept however and early-adopters can feel like they're stepping into the unknown when developing a project. At this event we'll hear from some corporate social investment pioneers to find out about the benefits, opportunites and challenges to corporate social investment projects.
About the event
Numbers for Good is holding an event for those at the early stage of developing a corporate social investment project. Guest speakers will include experienced corporate social investment experts, ‘intrapreneurs’ and social entrepreneurs and we'll encourage an open discussion of the key challenges organisations face when becoming a social investor.
Whilst there will be a plenary session we intend for the event to be as discursive as possible, so that a genuine conversation can develop.
The event will focus on
- Best-in-class examples of corporate social investment in action
- Knowledge and insights from those who've done it
- An expert panel with the experience to answer key questions about social investment, including how to measure social impact, business case validation, how to convene and catalyse internal resources and essential insights on securing key stakeholder buy-in
Speakers will include
- Tom Hall, Head of Philanthropy, UBS, the first bank to make use of new UK tax reliefs for social investment
- Simon Devonshire OBE, Entrepreneur in Residence, UK Government
- Claire Kearney, Strategy and Market Development Director, Big Society Capital
- Bob Thust, former intrapreneur and founder of ‘Deloitte Social Innovation Pioneers’
- Social investment specialists Numbers for Good
